Police say a Kanawha County woman was murdered and then robbed Monday and her family say the man who allegedly killed her was no stranger, instead a friend, who she was trying to help.
"They were just trying to help him out, the guy didn't have anything going for him, they were just being nice," the victim's younger brother Cory Gillispie says.
Police say 38-year-old John Hudson took advantage of that generosity. He was staying with 39-year-old Michelle Gillispie and her boyfriend at their home in Winifrede Hollow near Chesapeake. But sometime after Michelle's boyfriend left for work on Monday, police say Hudson shot Michelle in the head, robbed her home, took off in her car and left her for dead.
Hudson eventually turned himself into police. He told Eyewitness News that the shooting was an accident, but Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies say after the murder and robbery, Hudson tried to pawn what he looted from her house.
"That's when West Virginia needs the death penalty right there, someone is trying their best to help you and you go and rob them and kill them, he should be hung," Cory says.
Michelle leaves behind three children. Hudson, who's from Boone County, has been charged with murder. We looked at his criminal history, he did some time in federal prison for distribution of meth. He was released in 2003.
