The sniper suspect has plead guilty to federal gun charges. The charges are unrelated to the sniper case, but there was an interesting link to the sniper investigation that was laid out in Court Monday morning.
While police were out doing the big dig in Sissonville for evidence in the sniper killings, at the home where Lester allegedly hid out after the sniper shootings, they came across some surveillance pictures from inside the home showing Lester holding two shotguns, according to the investigation. He was in possession of the guns on two different days back in September of 2007, the pictures were date stamped.
Those pictures lead to the federal charges because he wasn't allowed to have guns because of two prior felony convictions for grand larceny and drugs and he also admitted in court that he was addicted to Oxycontin. Lester pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a known user of drugs in possession of a gun, both federal offenses. He could get a maximum of 20 years in prison for the charges.
The families of all three sniper murder suspects were in court today, even though the gun charges are unrelated to the killings of their loved ones, they say the guilty plea gives them hope that Lester will make a plea in the murder cases.
Also we learned today that there has been a hearing set for next month in state court where Lester will ask for his murder trial to be moved out of Kanawha County. It was set for late spring in Charleston.
The families say they are hopeful that the trial won't be moved, but say they will travel if they have to because they want to be there every time Lester is in court.
