Just days after losing a man whom a family loved so much, it's hard for them to find words, much less answers.
Friday night cut 47-year old Dennis Glen James' life short. Dennis was returning to his home in Elkview that night with his girlfriend, Tina Smith. They parked their car in a lot across from the home and attempted to cross Elk River Road, but in the blink of an eye....tragedy struck.
"All I could see were the tail lights of the vehicle and there was no way I could chase it down," said Dennis' girlfriend, Tina Smith. "It was just like boom...just like a sledge hammer had hit something. I thought his father's truck had been hit."
"He flipped him over and tried to help him. And I prayed for him and now he's gone," said Dennis' sister, Christina Hawk.
The person who hit Dennis took off, never stopping and never to be seen since. Now his family is reaching out for help.
"He can't rest. We can't rest. Because you can't just let somebody like that do something to your family and never know who they are," said Hawk.
Until then, a family is left with heartache, memories, and hope that justice can somehow be done.
"I'm in disbelief that he's going to walk in the door anytime. And he's certainly not," said Smith.
