This day's violence left a bloodstained porch and a quiet Logan County neighborhood in shock. Deputies allege Shawn Belcher shot his parent's neighbor Dewey Rose and beat Rose's wife Gayleen so severely she was found unconscious and unresponsive on the kitchen floor in Davin.
Relatives say Belcher, a former substitute teacher, allegedly was stalking the Roses' teenage granddaughter, Kellyn Robinson, who said she had no relationship with him when he was busted for trespassing, stalking and public intoxication in December.
Robinson lived in next to her grandparents and behind Belcher's family home.
Rose told cops that Belcher fired one shot into the ceiling and then shot him in the face before brutally beating his wife. A family member said a set of false teeth may have deflected the bullet.
Deputies said Belcher asked them to shoot him and fought arrest. The magistrate who changed his personal recognizance bond to 200,000 dollars warned jailers to put Belcher on suicide watch.
Mrs. Rose is in the ICU unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital after being flown there in a helicopter ambulance. Mr. Rose's condition was not available.
Belcher has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, and two counts of daytime burglary after a shooting Monday morning near Man.
