Rescue efforts continue after a luxury cruise liner capsized off the coast of Italy Friday night. The death toll as of Sunday night was up to five, and nine passengers are still unaccounted for. On Sunday, a survivor was pulled from the water, after being trapped for more than 24 hours. The captain of the Costa Concordia, Francesco Schettino, is under arrest, facing possible charges of manslaughter and abandoning ship.
A couple from Rush, Kentucky, Megan and Andrew Ardire, were on that ship, celebrating their honeymoon, they made it off safely. Their family is over joyed to know their loved ones are safe and on solid ground.
Megan's mom Pamela Thomas says she got a phone call from her daughter as the ship was sinking.
"Mommy were ok but our ship is sinking," Thomas says.
The couple was watching a magic show wen the ship started sinking.
Meghan and Andrew have been keeping the family back in Rush, Kentucky informed through Facebook. It took them two hours to be rescued.
Thomas says her daughter was told twice there was no room in life boats and there was chaos, but they eventually made it off the boat safely.
"We don't put our faith in the cruise lines, it's in Jesus," Thomas says.
The couple will be on a flight back home to Lexington as early as Monday. Right now ,they're waiting at a Hilton Hotel at an airport in Rome.
