A step-dad was in court on Tuesday to face charges that he sexually abused his 5-year-old step daughter.

Jeremy Lane is facing one first degree charge of child sexual abuse but Kanawha County Assistant Prosecutor Dan Holstein says more charges are likely to come.

Police say his young step-daughter was in the hospital for bleeding and that sent off some red flags. A victim's advocate from CAMC, Maureen Runyon, testified that the little girl told her and showed her how Lane would allegedly perform sexual acts on her, and make her perform sexual acts on him. Runyon says the little girl said it happened 60 times, but kids her age have a difficult time quantify things, so expects it happened numerous times. Runyon also testified that the little girl gave graphic details about the alleged abuse.

"A child can only acquire that through experience, even if they see something on TV they can't know smell, taste and feel and as I said, she gave a tremendous amount of what we call sensory detail," Runyon testified.

Police say the abuse happened at the girl's mother's home in Sissonville, when the mom was away.

Lane was in court for his preliminary hearing and had the help of an interpreter doing sign language.

There were several people in the courtroom supporting Lane, they've even started a petition proclaiming his innocence. But the magistrate found enough probable cause to bound the case over to the grand jury he also denied a request to reduce Lane's bond and left it at $100,000 cash.
