Harts , Lincoln County , West Virginia
The Beginning of the new year also meant the beginning of a new era for some Lincoln County students. Harts PreK – 8 opened its doors for the first time Thursday.
“We're shocked that it has gone as smooth as it has,” said Principal Deborah Dingess.
The brand new facility was funded through the School Building Authority and combines the old Harts Primary and middle schools.
The new location is as central as it gets. The old primary school is a mile up the road, the old middle school, a mile down the road.
Parents and students are thrilled to have a new school in their neighborhood.
“They (her kids) were so excited! They were up early this morning ‘Let's go to the new school!’” said parent and volunteer Cathy Lovejoy.
"Oh my gosh this school is so pretty and it's so big!" said fourth grade student Alexandria.
“Me and my friends think it's really cool and pretty and it's really colorful, our old school was just white and I didn't like white,” said fourth grade student Katherine.
Along with the bright colors, the lockers are a big hit with the students.
“I really do like the lockers cause they're a lot taller than the lockers back at the old school,” said Alexandria.
The school also has a brand new gym to keep the kids active. The staff is already looking forward to a new playground and possibly outdoor basketball courts in the future.
Monday will be the first day all 454 students will attend on the same day. Only the middle school students attended Thursday while elementary students had their turn Friday.
