The sun sets on a semi-built home on a January day. A home that's meant to bring hope and help to sick kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The St. Jude Dream Home is in progress. Builder Dave Hobba hired Amish farmers who have stayed busy over the past few months.
"They have children just as we do and some of their children have unfortunate issues with cancer and different things," explained Hobba.
The home serves as a symbol of salvation for children at St. Jude. It will soon help fund cancer research for the hospital. "The treatment we're able to provide at St. Jude keeps families from going bankrupt or keeps children from dying, so it's a really important thing that we're doing," explains St. Jude Representative, Morgan Kuhn.
Friday had another special meaning--January 6th would have been Danny Thomas' 100th birthday. In 1962, Danny Thomas founded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
"Projects like this and all the campaigns that we do really helps us raise the money to do the research and save the lives...and it was his dream to do that. So it's awesome that we can fulfill his dream and his legacy lives on," said Kuhn.
The dream home still has a long way to go. But St. Jude supporters are confident Danny Thomas would approve of it's purpose to help a sick child. "It truly is a community effort. And I know he'd be proud of everyone and he's probably looking down...very happy," said Kuhn.
The ticket giveaway for the dream home will start February 24.
