Christine Bennett has been spending more time at home because business at Caldwell's Market in Fraziers Bottom is so slow.
"We didn't realize how much we depended on drive by traffic and impulse buyers until they were gone." says Bennett, who works at Caldwell's.
Bennett says that traffic disappeared when the new Route 35 opened. Now customers don't know where old Route 35 businesses are and there's no sign telling them where Fraziers Bottom is located.
Bennett says, "We'd like to see a sign on the road saying where Fraziers Bottom is and how to get to old Route 35."
Brent Walker with the Department of Transportation says businesses could get their wish if the need is strong enough.
"We're sensitive they're seeing a reduction in business." says Walker, "We're hoping to review that and make sure it fits the policy ."
Instead of being open 24 hours, the 7/11 Marathon gas station now closes at eleven. And the manager at the Country Roads BP says their business has taken a hit as well.
"We've probably dropped 30-40 percent from what it was." says BP manager, Anita Fowler, "Every week there's a new driver that says I didn't know I could come down this way and get on again easy."
"We love the new road. It's taken the trucks off the old Route 35 and made it a lot safer. But we need to be put back on the map." says Bennett.
Brent Walker says he doesn't foresee a problem getting a green and white sign placed on the new highway, but the board will have to review the specific case before any decision is made.
