Patrolman Jerry Jones' wife Samantha and his parents accepted a posthumous award on his behalf this afternoon.

The tribute was part of the 7th Annual Public Safety Council awards.

Jones was killed September 13, 2009 by friendly fire after a car chase with a suspect ended violently.

Jones was a three year veteran of the Charleston Police Department and died just a month before what would have been his 28th birthday.

It was an emotional ceremony for many public safety workers since the memories of the tragedy as still very fresh.
