Despite a pinch here, and some tears there, the H1N1 vaccination clinic at J.E. Robins went pretty well. It's part of a mass effort to vaccinate any child in Kanawha County who wants to get it done.
Luke Johnson has a seven-year-old at J.E. Robins, and he's volunteering at the clinic at the school. He got info from his child's doctor and looked up things online to stay educated about the swine flu.
He said, "In the beginning, I was a little bit nervous, but as I've seen everything unfold, it's not as bad as I thought it would be." He says his son Pritt got a seasonal flu shot already, and he's excited students in Kanawha County have easy access to the H1N1 vaccine. "I think it's a terrific deal, as far as helping the children out and making sure they're vaccinated."
Principal Henry Nearman says they've mostly gotten positive feedback from parents. "Parents are really interested. We've gotten a lot of the permission slips back, and we're just excited that we're able to provide this for our families."
He says it's really a win-win for the school and the students. "If a lot of kids start to get H1N1, and pass it to the next student, If we can prevent this and keep student in our school that's what our goal is."
