There are allegations of vote buying in Athens County.
According to WOUB. the chairman of the Republucican Party, Pete Couladis, is accusing the Ohio University College Democrats of sending an email promising money to students to vote in Athens' 4th Ward. The 4th Ward has the only contested race for Athens city council.
WOUB obtained a copy of the email, which was sent out Friday by College Democrats Vice President Kellie Galan. She writes about plans for a rally and says, quote, "...if you bring a friend from 4th ward they are more than a friend, they're five bucks!"
Couladis says if any money was paid or offered, the group violated Ohio's election laws.
The county prosecutor and board of elections is investigating.
