The Charleston Police Department is getting about 200,000 dollars in federal stimulus money.
The majority of the money will go to helping domestic violence victims through various non profits like the YWCA. According to police every eight days someone in West Virginia is murdered in cases involving domestic violence. Charleston Police Victims Advocate, Kimberly Eagle said, "It's critical for West Virginia to up our game in how we respond to domestic violence and we will use this money to the best of our ability in helping women get the resources they need."
The police department also received stimulus money to fund grants for school resource officers at Stonewall Jackson Middle School and Capital High School and to retain people serving in the drug and violent crime task force.
