Following the lead of President Barack Obama and West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller, the parent company of WCHS-TV and WVAH-TV has decided to push back our switch to digital television.
In order to give you more time to get the equipment needed to continue watching your favorite ABC and FOX programs, along with the award-winning Eyewitness News, Weather and Sports teams we are now making the change from analog to digital television on June 12th.
That gives you nearly four additional months to get a converter box, digital antenna or digital-ready tv to keep receiving the same shows you are now.
And if you need assistance hooking that new equipment up, a Digital Television Help Center is now open in downtown Charleston at 206 Capitol Street.
Open Monday through Friday from 9:30 in the morning until eight at night, their experts can walk you through the installation process either over the phone or by making a visit to your home and helping with antenna and converter box issues.
"We send people to the houses and some of the people aren't..you know, they just don't know too much about electronics," said Clint Goodwin with the Charleston DTV Help Center. "We go to their house and help them hook it up, make sure it's hooked up properly and try to do the scanning and any kind of setup stuff that they need."
Right now the Digital Television Help Center is scheduled to remain open in downtown Charleston until the end of March. But with the switch from analog to digital pushed back from February to June that may change.
Also, it's important to know the converter box coupon program remains the same. When you apply you will still be put on a waiting list. However, if Congress allocates more money that is also subject to change.
So the bottom line, at least as far as we're concerned, you now have until June 12th to get your home ready for the digital television switch.
And remember, if you get your signal through a satellite or cable company you should be fine. If you have any questions, check with your provider.
