The paint on the walls of J.E. Robins Elementary look like the work of artist Jackson Pollock, unfortunately it not the work of an artist but vandals.
Charleston Police suspect five unknown teenagers broke into the school sometime between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. Police believe the vandals are four girls and one boy between the ages of 13 and 14. They splattered paint all over the three story building. They also emptied fire extinguishers and trashed the school kitchen.
"It is extremely sad," teacher Kat Johnson said. "We have an old building and it is hard to make it look nice."
According to police there are no signs of forced entry and nothing appears to be stolen. The vandals struck just with school just about a week away. Staff members started preparing for the school year late last week, now they have a lot more cleaning to do before school begins. Officials believe it will take at least three days to clean up the school.
