Nearly a year after Kanawha County voters approved table games, the first card has yet to be dealt at Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center.
There have been plenty of obstacles and delays in the journey to start up table games but people at the dog track insist they'll be a reality in a few short weeks.
About 70 prospective dealers are almost finished with their West Virginia State Community and Technical College classes teaching them the ins and outs of poker.
Kanawha County voters narrowly approved table games last July. Some are wondering why it's taking so long for the track to begin rolling dice, and counting chips.
Ron LaDuca with Tri-State says the track wants to hire West Virginians for the $35,000 to $40,000 a year jobs.
The group of current students is set to finish their poker lessons next week.
That's when the next crop of potential dealers start learning the basics of Blackjack and other games.
