It was a bumpy ride to school for some students in Boyd County Friday morning. Homer Middleton never thought a deer could have an impact on his school bus, but after 14 students were sent to the hospital this morning, he is now a believer.
Middleton was driving under an overpass when a deer jumped up and slammed into his bus. He says he saw the deer but had no time to react. The aftermath sent 14 students to the hospital with minor injuries. Two windows were busted on the outside and shattered glass was all over the inside of the bus.
Homer Middleton says "Just as soon as I got passed the deer, about halfway passed the deer, I was looking at the road and I heard this big crash, and I looked out the mirror as soon as I heard the crash, looked out the mirror, I seen the deer drop, I knew exactly what had happened.
Middleton says he always keeps an eye out for deer, but this morning was just a rare, freak accident.
