Time Share Scam
Jenifer McAndrews Avoid Being the Victim of a Time Share Scam
April 30, 2013
By: Jenifer McAndrews

"Betty" does not want her identity revealed, but she is the victim of a time share resale scam. She lost thousands of dollars to someone offering to sell the time share she owns.

"Betty" says she received a phone call asking if she was interested in selling her time share. Two days later she says the company called back and told her they had a buyer, but they needed some money from her up front.

"Betty" sent $2,000 for what she was told were closing costs. When she called to follow up, all she got were excuses.

"Betty" says, "They said they were processing with paperwork. That person backed out. Never materialized. I realized it was a scam then."

Postal inspectors say, unfortunately this is not uncommon. Victims send a check through the mail or a credit card and the time share never sells.

To make matters worse, "Betty"'s name got put on a lead list and other telemarketers got her number. "Betty" says her phone was ringing off the hook at all times of the day and night.

The bottom line, never send money up front when you are selling a property.
