Spring is definitely here and so is the Charleston Blues Fest in downtown this weekend, and if you're heading that way, listen up.

We started out this week's Behind the Kitchen Door at Shoney's in Charleston. Inspectors found 14 violations, including six critical.

There were problems with employees not properly washing their hands, raw meat was stored improperly over ready-to-eat food in the cooler, eggs were stored improperly, lids and containers were dirty and the dishwasher wasn't dispensing sanitizer.

Most of those violations were cleaned up, and inspectors gave the restaurant a good rating.

Up next this week was Hibachi's in South Ridge, where inspectors found 11 violations, four critical.

An employee was handling ready-to-eat food with his bare hands, there was raw meat stored over food in cooler, raw eggs were stored at unsafe temperature and there was an improper employee drink.

All those violations were corrected, and inspectors gave Hibachi an excellent rating.

A couple of weeks ago, we reported about some issues with the Putnam County Health Department.

Putnam County Commissioner Joe Haynes was quoted as saying information from my investigation, which found some restaurants hadn't been inspected for up to two years, was wrong.

On Thursday, he told me he was misquoted and promised to get together with the head of the health department, me and a camera.
