In this week's Behind The Kitchen Door, the IHOP on MacCorkle Avenue in Charleston received eight critical and four non-critical violations from the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department.

Inspectors found eggs stored above meat, chemicals were placed near clean utensils and an employee was improperly washing his or her hands. IHOP #4502 cleaned up and received a good rating.

Meanwhile, Our Place Diner in Dunbar had five critical and eight non-critical violations.

Food was being reheated to improper temperatures and the potato salad didn't have a date mark. Inspectors said the person in charge lacked knowledge of proper food safety procedures. With all those violations, Our Place Diner received a fair compliance.

The Clean Kitchen of the Week Award was given to Deli Fresh in Charleston.

"We have a great family support system and that is why we want to make sure that our kitchen and our facilities stay clean," Brieanna Stamper, an employee and the daughter of the owners of Deli Fresh, said.

The sandwich and soup eatery had been on Greenbrier Street since 1990. The most popular sandwiches are The Stallion (an Italian sub with salami and pepperoni), the Fat Adam (a shaved roast beef sandwich), and the Regatta Hot Mama, which has German sausage.
