When you sit down at an area restaurant, sometimes it’s hard to tell how it rates when it comes to cleanliness and health standards.

Taisha Walker takes you inside for a closer look. Each week, her special Eyewitness News feature “Behind the Kitchen Door” shows diners how restaurants fared during their health inspections. An eatery that receives a good rating and displays proper food safety is surprised with our Clean Kitchen of the Week Award.

Tune in to “Behind the Kitchen Door” every Thursday at 10 p.m., and see the latest stories online here at WCHSTV.com.

Bob Evans restaurant on Alex Lane in Charleston received three critical and four non-critical violations.

Health inspectors found crusted food on a clean dish. They also said the utensils weren't being stored properly in between use. The ice maker was dirty.

Bob Evans cleaned up and received a fair rating.

The Dairy Queen in Scott Depot had one critical and four non-critical violations. Inspectors said whipped toppings and cheese weren't being cooled at the right temperature. Inspectors also spotted onions being stored on the kitchen floor.

Our Clean Kitchen of the Week Award goes to Brick Salt Bar and Grill in Charleston. Brick Salt is located on Lee Street inside the Marriott Hotel. The restaurant has a menu that is a month old and features fresh, local ingredients.

"We try to infuse as many local ingredients that we could into the menu so we support our local community," John Edckstadt, executive chef, said. "We have the freshest product we could implement into the menu."

Brick Salt is hosting a customer appreciation event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 4.
