![]() Childrens' Health Month
October is Childrens` Health Month. But for parents that focus happens everyday. And keeping children away from dangerous household chemicals is the focus of a new movement called the Kid-Safe Chemical Act.
Dr. Alan Greene/Pediatrician, "Raising Baby Green", online expert for Web MD, Advisory Board of Healthy Child Healthy World It`s worse than a polyester leisure suit That is how Dr. Greene describes the chemical laws in effect now. He says the way ingredients in products are tested, or not, dates back to the 1970`s and that it`s scientifically out of date. Greene is a pediatrician involved with the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act. A movement to get Congress to enact new regulations. Dr. Greene You`d think... there are 80,000 chemicals in products in the United States... that some is testing them for safety. But, sadly under the old laws the government doesn`t have authority to do that. Dr. Greene thinks the very products you may be using to keep your home safe and clean, could be hurting your children. He says he is most concerned about cleaning products, and suggests buying non-toxic products with non toxic-ingredients- not with warnings of danger on labels. He says that`s why he supports the Kid-Safe Chemical Act... to test the ingredients and products before they go on the market for you to buy. Dr. Greene It should happen especially for kids because they are the most vulnerable. When used as directed they should be safe for kids. And the EPA should have the authority to regulate the most toxic.
