Specialists vary on their opinions whether to buy a hard-soled or soft-soled shoe. Some say children don't need shoes at all. But no mom's going to buy that idea when there are cute shoes to splurge on.

Shoes protect feet keep you warm and cost money. that's it. The biggest hting is make sure they fit well.

Dr. Matusic says go to a specialty children's footware store for a professional fitting, so you know how to fit a shoe before you shop. Because a poorly fitting shoe, isn't good for your toddler's developing feet.

I've actually seen kids with what I thought were burns on their feet and they were from shoes rubbing on foot, make sure they fit well.
