HUNTINGTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department said three juveniles have been charged after a video surfaced that they say shows a Spring Valley High School student abusing another student who did not defend himself.
One juvenile has been charged with assault, battery and conspiracy, and two other juveniles have been charged with conspiracy, according to a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
A video that is circulating on social media shows the incident took place in a bathroom.
The sheriff’s department said it received information about 8:45 p.m. Thursday about possible misconduct by a student at Spring Valley. Sheriff Rick Thompson assigned a deputy to investigate, and the sheriff’s department contacted county school officials and the prosecutor’s office.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s department said its investigator contacted the guardian of the victim and was told the student had been seen by medical personnel. School officials said the boy accused of abusing the student has been suspended pending an investigation.
A meeting about the incident was held Friday morning at the school and was attended by the sheriff, the department’s investigator and school officials. The sheriff’s department said the victim and several witnesses have been interviewed. The incident remains under investigation.
