Taking the plunge: Swimming pool season kicking off in the region

Families looking to cool off will have options with the opening of some area swimming pools for the Memorial Day weekend.

Below is a list of some of the pools in the region and information about their schedules. This list will be updated as more information becomes available:

Boone County

Pool: Water Ways in Julian

Opens: Saturday, May 26

Hours: Daily (weather permitting) 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For Season: May 26 through Aug. 12

Admission: $12 for those 44 inches tall and up (tubes included in the price), $5 entry for those under 44 inches tall (can't ride the big slides, can use lazy river, pool and kiddy island) and free entry for kids 3 years old and under when accompanied by an adult.

Kanawha County

Pool: Coonskin Park

Opens: Saturday, May 26, Sunday, May 27, Monday, May 28

Hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26; 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 27. Pool will close Tuesday, May 29, through May 31

For Season: Opens Saturday, June 2, for the season

Admission: Rates still being determined

Opens: Saturday, June 2

Hours: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., six days a week. Closed on Mondays.

Charleston

Opens: Saturday, May 26; Sunday, May 27, Memorial Day, Monday, May 28

Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For Season: Tuesday, May 29, through Friday, June 1, will depend on lifeguard availability. Pool for season will operate Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Season: Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend

Admission: $10 for adults, $8 children ages 5 to 11, $6 for military, $6 for seniors 60 and over, free for children ages 4 and under

Eleanor Pool

Opens: June 5 for season, also open on May 26, 27, 28 and June 2 and 3.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday

Season: June 5 opens and closing date is to be determined

Admission: $5 per person, free for ages 5 and under. $2.50 entry for June 3 only. Season tickets are also available for $100 per person or discounted prices for groups, book of 25 tickets is $100.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday

Admission: $4 per person, children under 3 are free, Tuesdays admission is $2 per person, Thursdays admission is $3 per person

Boyd County, Ky.

Dawson Park, Ashland

Opens: Saturday, May 26

Hours: Noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday

Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for students and children.
