South Charleston police: Hospital patient who fled in gown, stole truck now in custody

South Charleston police said a Thomas Memorial Hospital patient who left the hospital clad in a gown and stole a truck has been taken into custody by Kanawha County deputies.

Police had been searching for Bobby Nichols, a registered sex offender, in the Ridgewood Pool area by Village Drive. The search moved to the Mallory Airport area.

South Charleston police said Wednesday they are trying to get a State Police helicopter to search for a Thomas Memorial Hospital patient who left the hospital clad in a gown and stole a truck.

The search for Bobby Nichols, a registered sex offender, is taking place in the Ridgewood Pool area by Village Drive.

Police said Nichols wrecked a vehicle Wednesday morning into a mail truck in Charleston and fled to South Charleston. South Charleston police said they found him on top of a building at Riverwalk Plaza.

Police said they called an ambulance to take him to Thomas because he was displaying erratic behavior.
