Deputies have confirmed that a body was found inside a burning home in East Bank that was the scene of a SWAT standoff Monday afternoon.

The situation followed a shooting that occurred around 8 a.m. in the 2400 block of First Avenue in East Bank.

Kanawha deputies said the incident was a domestic situation. A man allegedly fired a gun at his girlfriend's vehicle. A woman was grazed, but refused treatment, according to Metro 911.

During the standoff, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team approached the residence with an armored vehicle and asked the suspect to come out the front door.

A few minutes later, smoke began billowing out the window. Large flames then shot from the residence, keeping emergency crews back.

Firefighters appeared to have knocked down most of the flames about 5:30 p.m.. At this time they can't confirm that the body inside was that of the suspect.

East Bank Middle School and Pratt Elementary School were temporarily on a precautionary lockdown after the shooting, but that has been lifted.
