Putnam County Schools approves 2018-19 calendar, adds 30 minutes to days
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Putnam County parents and students now know when students will be heading back to class next school year.
The Putnam County Board of Education on Tuesday approved the 2018-19 school calendar and levy rates for the fiscal year.
Students will start Aug. 17, and employees will start Aug. 14. The board also approved the addition of 30 minutes of instructional time daily, giving the district five professional learning days in the calendar. Students would not report to school on those professional learning days and would not be expected to make up any days missed due to inclement weather or other unseen circumstances until after the fifth day, school officials said.
The professional learning days in the calendar are Sept. 20, Oct. 22, Oct. 23, Jan. 11 and Feb. 26. The last day for students will be June 4 and the last day for employees will be June 7.
Officials said the levy rates would be unchanged for 2018-19. The rates are as follows: 19.40 cents per $100 of assessed value in class I; 38.80 cents per $100 in class II; and 77.60 cents per $100 of assessed value for both class III and IV. Excess levy rates are 22.95 cents per $100 in class I; 45.90 cents in class II; and 91.80 cents per $100 for classes III and IV.
