Police say woman charged in fatal I-64 accident in which car plunged off of bridge
HUNTINGTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
Huntington police said a woman is facing charges in an accident in which a car plunged off a bridge on Interstate 64 and the victim later died from his injuries.
Elizabeth Lewis, 39, of Ashland was charged with DUI causing death and driving on a license revoked for DUI, according to criminal complaints filed in Wayne County Magistrate Court.
The accident happened about 11 a.m. April 7 on I-64 in Huntington. Police said Lewis was involved in a multiple-vehicle accident in which a car plunged off the bridge more than 60 feet onto Spring Valley Drive below. Police said Lewis was unresponsive and her passenger said they had been using drugs.
Police said Lewis suffered an overdose and was administered Narcan.
The victim whose vehicle went off the bridge, Jerrell Simmons, 70, died from his injuries on April 28, family members said.
Lewis was arraigned on the charges in Cabell County. She was taken to the Western Regional Jail where a cash only bond of $750,000 was set.
