Police say suspect accused of breaking into cars badly injured in fall from parking garage
HUNTINGTON, W.Va (WCHS/WVAH) —
Huntington Police said a man accused of breaking into vehicles was badly injured in a fall from a parking garage.
Police said it happened about 8:15 p.m. Sunday at the parking garage in the 700 block of Third Avenue. Chief Hank Dial said a man was found lying in the alley with various items around him. The man was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center with severe injuries including a broken back and possible fractured skull, Dial said.
Police said they believe the man had broken into at least three vehicles, including a city vehicle, and took a garden hose in an attempt to rappel down the third story of the building when he fell. Police said they located some stolen items, a bag of burglary tools, two grams of marijuana and other items belonging to the man.
Police said the man was identified as Christopher Sowards, 30, of Huntington. Police said he will be facing charges including possession of a controlled substance, entry of an automobile, petit larceny and destruction of property.
