One dead after fatal crash in Mercer County

West Virginia State Police have released the name of a man killed in an accident on Interstate 77 in Mercer County involving a wrong-way driver.

Cody Kincaid, 27, of the Beckley area was killed in the wreck that occurred about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 77 near mile marker 18, WVVA reported.

Kincaid was traveling in a Jeep Wrangler that struck a tractor-trailer head-on in the northbound lanes and then hit a pickup truck carrying air-conditioning units.

A second person in the Jeep was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center. No condition was available. It was unclear who was driving the SUV.

State Police said a third person was taken to Princeton Community Hospital.

Traffic was backed up for more than five miles after the wreck.
