Names released in fatal Milton crash

Milton police have released the names of those involved in a fatal crash on I-64 in Milton Friday night.

According to a news release from the Milton Police Department, Skylor Cooper, 3, and Sarah Cooper, 1, were killed in a multiple vehicle crash Friday night neat mile marker 30 just after 7 p.m.

The release said Siera Burgess, 26, of Branchland in Lincoln County was driving eastbound when she crossed the grass median and drove into the westbound lanes, crashing head on into a truck hauling a camper.

Burgess was airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital where she underwent surgery overnight for multiple injuries. She remains in critical condition.

Madelyn Burgess, 7, was also in the vehicle and is also at Cabell Huntington Hospital. The extent of her injuries has not been released.

After striking the truck, which was being driven by an Athens, Ohio couple, Burgess continued on and struck a tractor-trailer.

None of the passengers in the truck or tractor-trailer were injured.

Milton Police Chief Joe Parsons said in a news release that although the investigation is not complete, alcohol and drug impairment are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.
