Five injured in 12-vehicle wreck on Interstate 64 just past the St. Albans exit

UPDATE, 5:46 p.m. - All westbound lanes of I-64 have reopened near the St. Albans exit after a 12-vehicle crash sent five people to the hospital.

Westbound lanes had been closed since about 4 p.m. Friday.

Five people have been transported to the hospital after a 12-vehicle wreck that has shut down westbound Interstate 64 in Putnam County just past the St. Albans exit.

All westbound lanes are shut down, and an emergency dispatcher said it would be a while before those lanes of the interstate are reopened.

The wreck was reported about 4 p.m. Friday.

The Teays Valley and Nitro fire departments, Kanawha County and Putnam EMS, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Nitro Police Department and West Virginia State Police are at the scene.

Traffic appears to be backed up to Cross Lanes.
