Multiple fire departments respond to blaze that heavily damages northern Putnam home

Multiple fire departments battled a blaze Friday in Putnam County that heavily damaged a home.

The residence is located near West Virginia 34 in the northern part of the county near the Putnam, Kanawha and Jackson county lines.

No injuries were reported.

A neighbor noticed that smoke was coming from the residence, tried to determine if anyone was inside and then called 911. Owner Jess Toney, his wife and two grandchildren and their dog were not at home when the blaze broke out.

The fire burned the rear third of the house to the ground.

Firefighters from the Route 34, Bancroft, Eleanor, Sissonville and Southern Jackson were among the rescue personnel that responded to the fire.

A cause of the fire has not been determined.
