Mother, daughter accused in $1 million embezzlement in Mercer County
MERCER COUNTY, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
A mother and daughter are accused of embezzling more than $1 million from a Bluefield business owned by a former mayor of the town, WVVA reported.
Roseanna Coomes worked at Coles Truck Parts on Bluefield Avenue as an account manager and her daughter, Jessica Coomes Johnson, also was employed there, the station said.
A criminal complaint said the embezzlement occurred over a 10-year period. The complaint said the money went toward a home down payment and to start a bakery in Princeton.
The complaint said Johnson thought her mother was borrowing the money and was going to pay it back.
According to the complaint, neither woman lives in luxury. Coomes lives in a double-wide mobile home and has moderate personal property; Johnson has similar circumstances.
The women were released on bond.
