Mega Millions, Powerball jackpots surpass $300 million
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have climbed above $300 million each, giving West Virginia lottery players another chance to win.
Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is an estimated $345 million with a cash option of $205.3 million, while Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $455 million with a cash option of $269.4 million, according to a news release from the West Virginia Lottery.
Both jackpots are in the top 10 largest ever in each game’s history. The Mega Millions jackpot is the ninth largest in the game’s history, and the Powerball jackpot is the eighth largest in that game’s history, the release said.
Both of the jackpots have been rolled 19 times since they were last hit, according to the release. The last Mega Millions jackpot to hit was $451 million in January in Florida. The last Powerball jackpot that was won was $559.7 million in January in New Hampshire.
Both game tickets cost $2 to play.
West Virginia has produced eight Powerball jackpot winning tickets, and 39 Powerball and Mega Millions tickets worth more than $1 million, according to the release.
The Mega Millions drawing will be 11 p.m. Friday, and the Powerball drawing will be 10:59 p.m. Saturday.
West Virginia players have until 9:59 p.m. on draw days to purchase lottery tickets.
