A Mason County woman is facing child neglect daughter after police said her granddaughter died after being left in a vehicle.

Carolyn I. Davis, 65, of Point Pleasant is charged with child neglect resulting in death after her 19-month-old grandson died after Davis left him inside her hot car for an extended period of time, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mason County Magistrate Court.

The complaint said the child had been left in the care of Davis when the incident occurred. Police said after speaking with the child's 4-year-old sibling and reviewing autopsy results, it was determined the child's death was a result of the high temperatures inside of the car.

Police believe the child was in the car from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Point Pleasant police said the car and the home where the car was located were filthy. One officer said it was the worst he had seen in 22 years on the job.
