MONTGOMERY, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
A man who was employed as property manager for an apartment complex in Montgomery is accused of embezzling nearly $9,000 from rent money he collected from two elderly tenants.
Paul Andrew Martin, 52, of Montgomery is accused of embezzling the money from the residents at Upper Falls Landing Apartment complex at 1300 Third Avenue, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said Martin was employed as a property manager and maintenance person for RLJ Management Co. based in Columbus, which specializes in managing properties participating in low-income housing tax credits and U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development programs.
Martin is accused of collecting the money from the cash rent money from the tenants, never depositing the funds to any financial institution or holding company on behalf of RLJ Management and misappropriating the money for his own personal gain, the complaint said.
Martin is charged with embezzlement for personal use, fraudulent schemes and financial exploitation of an elderly person. He is being held at South Central Regional Jail.
