Man accused of taking items from University of Charleston football team's locker room

Police said a man faces a charge after he was arrested following the theft of coaches and players’ personal belongings from the locker room during the University of Charleston’s spring scrimmage football game at Laidley Field.

John Lee Selbe Jr. 26, of Charleston is charged with grand larceny after Thursday’s incident, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Charleston police said Selbe was shown on camera walking toward the UC football team’s locker room and then walking away from the locker room with items.

Police said Selbe was found at the East End Community Park and had the stolen items in his possession.

Selbe is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail on $5,000 bond or 10 percent cash.
