The case against the former school secretary at Confidence Elementary School is heading to the grand jury.

Tuesday afternoon in Putnam County Magistrate Court Malinda Legg waived her preliminary hearing. She is charged with embezzlement and falsifying accounts. She is free on bond.

According to the criminal complaint, Legg confessed to taking cash collected at the Confidence Elementary School Carnival in October 2016. That money would have been used for field trips and classroom supplies, but Legg said she used it to pay for a scam she got caught up in.

Legg told investigators she covered up the theft by altering financial reports and bank statements. An audit by Putnam County Schools shows $8,368.77 was missing from the school's bank account.

A spokesperson for Putnam County Schools said Legg resigned from her position July of this year.
