Former Putnam County teacher accused of sexually abusing student
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
A former Putnam County Career and Technical Center teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student was arrested Friday in Charleston.
Kevin Neal, 31, is charged with soliciting a minor via computer and sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust to a child, according to a criminal complaint.
On Nov. 30, the complaint said Putnam County deputies were called to the school after a report was made alleging an inappropriate relationship between Neal and a 17-year-old student.
The victim provided deputies with emails she received from Neal and told deputies that on more than one occasion, Neal took her into his office and performed sexual acts with her, according to the complaint.
After obtaining a search warrant, deputies said they also found several nude pictures of the girl on Neal’s cell phone.
Neal was fired from the school in early December. Putnam County School Superintendent John Hudson said Neal’s conduct was, “wholly unacceptable and illegal in nature.”
Neal was arrested Friday by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Unit at a behavioral health facility in Charleston.
Neal is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
