Fire damages entrance of St. Albans Dollar General

Dispatchers said lighter fluid that was just outside the entrance of the St. Albans Dollar General store caught fire at about 4 p.m. Sunday. (Jeffrey Lanham)

Firefighters worked quickly to knock out a fire at a St. Albans Dollar General store Sunday afternoon.

Crews on scene said lighter fluid, along with other barbecue supplies,that was just outside the entrance of the store caught fire at about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Pennsylvania Avenue was closed for a short time as crews responded to the fire, but the road has since reopened.

There is some damage to the main entrance, but there was no structural damage or damage to the inside of the store.

When the fire started there were two employees and two customers in the store. All four got out safely through the back door.

At this time, firefighters are still on scene and the store remains closed.
