Deputies: Mingo County woman charged after leaving toddlers in hot car with soiled diapers
MATEWAN, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Mingo County deputies say a woman is facing charges after she left two toddlers with soiled diapers in a car with no air conditioning and the windows rolled up for nearly five hours.
Heather Renea Bailey, 29, is charged with two counts of child neglect and obstructing an officer.
Deputies responded to Magnolia Garden Apartments in Matewan to find firefighters had freed two children, ages two and three, from the child restraints in a car. The kids had rashes and were sitting in soiled diapers.
Deputies said when Bailey showed up later, she told them she left the children in the car Friday evening to walk to her father's house in Delbarton.
Deputies said Bailey had to be handcuffed to a bed at the hospital when she refused to let them take blood and became combative.
Bailey is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $10,000 multiple 10 percent and surety bond.
