Police release name of wrong-way driver killed in crash on I-64 in Huntington

Huntington police have released the name of a wrong-way driver who was killed in a crash early Friday morning on Interstate 64 after his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer.

Dwayne Eddie Bowman, Jr., 23, of Huntington died Friday morning, according to a news release from police.

Dispatchers said the incident occurred about 4 a.m. near the Fifth Street Huntington exit (mile marker 8). Dispatchers said the driver was traveling the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of I-64 and crashed into a tractor-trailer. Bowman died at the scene.

Traffic was being rerouted through Huntington at the West Huntington exit because of the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer went to the hospital with some injuries.

Several callers reported dodging the driver as far away as Barboursville.

Eyewitness News This Morning Anchor Dave Benton said he had to swerve to avoid the car on his way to Charleston.

The interstate was closed for several hours between mile markers six and eight while crews reconstruct the scene.

The road was reopened about 10 a.m.
