Charleston police conduct third undercover sting in a week

Charleston police said Friday that nine more people were arrested in another undercover sting at the Charleston Town Center.

It marks the third sting this week – two at Town Center and one in the Capitol Market and Smith Street area. It makes a total of 37 arrests this week as result of the hybrid patrol's efforts.

Charleston Police Chief Steve Cooper said the number of calls for police service from the Town Center has doubled. A total of 27 people were arrested at the mall this week.

The latest arrests involved two municipal traffic warrants, eight municipal criminal warrants, one state warrant, six new municipal summons and one domestic violence petition.

Following is a list of those arrested and their charges:

* Christopher M. Vance, two municipal traffic warrants (no operator’s and revoked operator’s)

* Clifford Eugene Riley, municipal warrant for first-offense shoplifting

* Larry Benjamin Martin, seven municipal warrants (three open container, two trespassing, obstructing and battery)

* Kentayl Shami Miller, state warrant for battery

* Karl Hughes, trespassing summons

* Skila Tuttle, trespassing summons

* Arthur Edens, trespassing summons

* Samuel Burdette, trespassing summons

* Floyd Franklin, open container and littering summons

On Thursday, police said they arrested 10 people in a sting in the Capitol Market/Smith Street area. Police said the hybrid unit arrested eight people Monday in an undercover sting at the Town Center.
