Charleston police said a man riding a bicycle was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Sgt. Mark Kinder, head of the city’s traffic division, said the Robert Wilfong, 43, of Fairmont, was riding near the Cold Spot restaurant in the city limits and may have been too close to the road when the tractor-trailer hit his handlebars, knocking him off the bike. The truck then ran over his legs.

Police believe Wilfong was under the influence of alcohol.

Kinder said police believe the bike rider will be OK.

The driver of the tractor-trailer remained on scene and was not cited for anything, according to police.
