Metro 911 is warning drivers to use caution Thursday morning as numerous crashes have been reported due to black ice.

The rain and snow mix Wednesday left roadways wet and some areas have since frozen as temperatures dropped below 30. Road and bridge surfaces are likely to have frozen spots, Metro 911 said. Road conditions are expected to improve as the temperature rises.

In one incident Thursday, a Trans-Star ambulance was transporting a patient when it hit a patch of black ice and crashed into a bridge.

The crash happened about 2 a.m. on the Big Coal River Bridge in Kanawha County near the Lincoln County line.

A Kanawha County sheriff's deputy said the patient being transported complained of neck pain after the crash and was taken to the hospital in another ambulance.
