CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) - A man who was wanted in an AMBER Alert out of Illinois is now in custody and the children he is accused of abducting are safe.

Christopher M. Derleth, 39, was arrested Saturday afternoon at a campsite near Cabin Creek on Kayford Road, according to U.S. Marshals.

Law enforcement were able to track down Derleth, who they said used a credit card and was spotted on surveillance video in Kanawha County Friday.

On Monday, the Madison County State Attorney's Office issued a nationwide extradition arrest warrant for Derleth on charges of aggravated kidnapping and child abduction, according to a post on the sheriff's office Facebook page.

Derleth is accused of abducting 13-year-old Katherine Elizabeth Derleth and her two-week-old child, Christopher Ray Derleth. Both are safe and have been taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Officials said they believe Katherine is Derleth's stepdaughter.

Law enforcement said public tips, along with information from coal truck drivers in the area, led to Derleth's capture.
