Investigation under way after arson reported at West Side apartment building in Charleston
CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
Charleston firefighters are investigating an arson at a multi-unit apartment building on the West Side.
Investigators said someone apparently put clothing in a crawl space and set it on fire in the basement area of the building in the 700 block of Washington Street West. The fire was reported about noon Friday.
The building was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported.
Lt. Wes Smith of the Charleston Fire Department said investigators interviewed a person of interest who was on the back porch. The man was arrested on unrelated misdemeanor warrants, but was not charged in the fire. The investigation remains open.
Damage was limited to the crawl space and some smoke in the building.
