Traveling WV: Alderson Lion

Did you know there was once a full grown male African lion roaming the streets of Alderson in Greenbrier County? This is not an April Fools prank, this story is absolutely true!

The lion, named "French" after the circus owner who left him, has inspired current residents to place lion statues all over town. After a incident on the historic Alderson bridge with a traveling salesman, the town officials passed an ordinance requiring all lions to be leashed in Alderson, possibly the strangest law to ever appear on the law books in West Virginia.
