Putnam County Sheriff's Department recruiting deputies

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is offering an opportunity to those who want to see if they have the right stuff to be a law enforcement officer.

Applications to become a deputy are being accepted and must be submitted to the department by noon May 12, according to a flier posted on the agency’s Facebook page.

Physical and written tests will be given 8:30 a.m. May 13 at Winfield High School.

Deputies have a starting annual salary of about $30,400 and are paid an annual salary of about $36,500 after completing the academy. After one year, deputies make an annual salary of about $40,600. The job also offers opportunities to earn overtime pay and includes vacation, health and retirement benefits.

Multiple career paths are available -- patrol, detective unit, special enforcement unit, K-9 unit and school resource officer.
