Here is the way to shake any of that Ebenezer Scrooge-like “bah! Humbug!” out of your system.

Organizers said the Fourth Annual Light Up the Levee is scheduled to begin 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston. The event lasts about an hour.

Participants will have a chance to join in some Christmas carols, watch a lighted boat parade and sip on some hot chocolate.

A visit from Santa also is planned.

Those who attend the event area asked to spread the spirit of Christmas by bringing cereal, peanut butter, canned chicken or tuna, spaghetti noodles or canned spaghetti sauce for the Covenant House food pantry.

Last year, organizers switched the location for the annual event – due to the frigid conditions -- from Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston to right across the street at the Four Points by Sheraton on Kanawha Boulevard.

The event is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of Charleston.
